Explosion At Army Ammunition Plant

Middletown, Iowa An explosion occurred at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant during the manufacturing of 40-pound cratering charges. The incident occurred during the pressing of explosives, a remote operation. Because the operation was remote, no personnel were in the area. The explosion occurred around 5pm and emergency personnel responded and extinguished the fire within an hour. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
