Navy EOD Leads Humanitarian Mine Action Exercise

Bujumbura, Burundi U.S. Navy explosive ordnance disposal technicians from Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) conducted a Humanitarian Mine Action exercise with Burundi National Defense Force combat engineers over a three week period. The training exercise provided the opportunity for the U.S. EOD Technicians to share best practices on UXO reconnaissance, basic demolition procedures, and safe-handling and storage procedures.

The exercise was a combination of classroom and hands-on instruction. The Navy EOD Technicians participating in the exercise were from Mobile Units 6 and 8. The training exercise also helped to prepare the Burundian soldiers for potential deployments to Somalia for peace keeping missions.
