Police contacted the EOD unit at Fort Drum who identified the shell as an inert WWI military device. It is unclear how the munition arrived in the residential area, but there are reports of a UXO that exploded in the area in 1922, resulting in the deaths of children. Castor's UXO find was safely removed by EOD for disposal, a credit to his knowledge of the potential danger of the ordnance.
