Charges Pending Following Attempt to 'Recycle' UXO

Albemarle County, Virginia Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue responded to the Ivy Material Utilization Center (a recycling facility) for reports of an unexploded mortar round found on the transfer station floor. With the assistance of an Army EOD Team and a unit from Virginia State Police they secured the area for a controlled disposal.

There were no reported injuries or damage to the facility. The Albemarle County Fire Marshal's office has identified the person who dropped the mortar off at the center and is investigating how the person may have obtained the ordnance. Police have not ruled out filing charges if deemed appropriate after an investigation.
