Routine Burglary Response Turns Explosive

Rugby, England Police made an unexpected discovery when they responded to the scene of a reported burglary in Rugby. The Rugby Police's Rural Central and South team found three live WWII shells, prompting a bomb disposal team response.

A police spokesperson said, "Leaving them in situ wasn't an option, so we immediately contacted the Ministry of Defence. Although they were coming from another county, they arrived promptly, safely removed the shells, and disposed of them."

Fatal UXO Detonation in Afghan Scrap Yard Leaves One Dead

Jalalabad, Afghanistan A fatal UXO detonation occurred in the Surkh Rod District of eastern Nangarhar Province, highlighting the persistent hazard of energetic materials commingled within the scrap metal supply chain.

According to local authority Sayed Tayeb Hamad, the incident took place at the "Moqaddas" factory located inside the Jalalabad Industrial Park. A driver had transported a truckload of scrap materials from neighboring Laghman Province to the facility. While the scrap load was being offloaded, a piece of UXO hidden among the materials functioned. The resulting detonation killed the truck driver and left two other individuals with minor injuries.

Police Cordon Off Beach for UXO Assessment

Selsey, England Police cordoned off portions of Medmerry Beach in Selsey after suspected UXO was found on the shoreline. Sussex Police said it responded to assess "items believed to be smoke signals and small munition fragments."

Two controlled explosions were carried out to dispose of the ordnance and the beach was reopened according to the Selsey Coastguard.

Submerged Munitions Recovered by Fishermen in Lake Victoria

MBITA, Kenya Communities situated along Lake Victoria experienced a scare over the weekend after local fishermen inadvertently discovered ordnance hidden underwater.

The initial encounter took place at Litare Beach, located near Mbita. A group of fishermen hauled in what they initially believed was a large fish. Their excitement quickly turned to fear upon realizing that their catch was actually a box containing live explosives and ammunition.

The fishermen brought the hazardous cargo ashore, and police were immediately alerted to take control of the items. Additional UXO were also recovered from Lake Victoria the following day.
