Bottle Hunter Finds UXO on New Zealand Beach

Auckland, New Zealand A portion of bottom of Narrow Neck Beach on Auckland's North Shore was cordoned off after an old military ordnance was found by a beach goer. The North Shore man said he had been walking along the beach when he came across an old military shell.

"I was looking for old bottles when I saw it. It must've come down in a landslip from the cliffs recently," he said. He notified police, but in his own words, "didn't stick around" to see what happened. "I think the bomb guys came and took it away."

A police spokesperson said, "As a precaution part of the area was cordoned off and NZDF's EOD team was notified of the incident." No information was provided about the age or identification of the munition.
