Garden Mortar Safely Disposed of in Welsh Field

Tonyrefail, Wales A resident in a Welsh village was shocked to unearth a mortar round while gardening. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, South Wales Police, and the Army all responded to assist in the safe removal of the mortar which was later destroyed by a controlled detonation in a nearby field.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said, "South Wales Police were called to reports of a discovered unexploded ordnance item on Mill Street, Tonyrefail, on Friday, September 8. Appropriate cordons were put in place while specialist units attended to deal with it. The item, a mortar bomb, was safely removed and disposed of by a controlled explosion in a neighboring field. No-one was injured during this incident."
